Task:

The market for small scale LNG (ssLNG) applications as an alternative to established fuels, e.g. in the transport or industry sector, has become more important in recent years. In the projects presented here, Team Consult was assigned to support large gas and LNG producers in the development of marketing concepts and marketing strategies for ssLNG in various European markets.

Solution:

The task at hand was completed in several steps. The first step was a comprehensive market analysis with a focus on the different market segments and their respective volumes, the regulatory environment, price developments and the competitive environment as well as potential barriers to market entry.

In a next step the most promising market segments were identified. This involved:

  • An assessment of the market potential
  • The calculation of obtainable prices
  • A competitor analysis
  • The description of the regulatory environment for ssLNG applications
  • An outlook on future developments

As a result, the studies contained an assessment of the opportunities and risks associated with a market entry, the selection of possible partners, and a description of the requirements necessary for a successful market entry. For the industry customer segment, a regionalised database of potentially convertible customers was developed.
